Activities

Westhaven is committed to providing meaningful, inclusive, and individualised activity and engagement opportunities for people living with dementia.

We follow Ways to Wellbeing programme which recognises that every person retains their personhood, abilities, preferences, and need for connection regardless of cognitive impairment.

We offer

  • Individualised activities that make sense to the person
  • Provide Comfort, reassurance, and meaningful moments every day
  • Our activities happen in everyday care, conversations, touch, music, and shared moments.

The programme is designed for people living with dementia and is grounded in Person-Centred Care, Namaste Care principles, and informed by the Pool Activity Level (PAL) Tool. The aim is to enhance quality of life, wellbeing, dignity, and meaningful engagement for all residents.

Communal areas

We have two lounges within the Home, a larger lounge where residents can watch TV, or take part in activities with staff, and a smaller quieter lounge. Both have comfortable furnishings with supportive seating and tasteful décor, and provide a homely feel to the care home. Each lounge is carefully maintained to be safe, accessible and to suit a variety of physical needs.

Residents can enjoy meals in a relaxed and social setting. We recognise that meals are an important part of the day and our dining room is designed to promote comfort, dignity and companionship. Residents can also choose to have their meals in their rooms. We offer a protected meal times policy to ensure that our residents can enjoy their meals without distraction.

Personal touches welcome
We understand how important it is for residents to feel at home. That’s why we warmly welcome personal items, small furnishings and treasured belongings. Creating a familiar and personalised space helps foster a sense of continuity and comfort, which is central to our approach to care.

Safety and accessibility

Every room is fitted with a nurse call point, so that residents are able to request assistance at any time. We also provide access to a cordless phone ensuring that residents can stay in contact with friends and family, whenever they wish.
